Fourth World Artisans

Description

Lakeview/Southport Corridor — Fourth World Artisans is a unique shop specializing in the work of local artisans and hand-crafted items from around the world. Folk art, artifacts, textiles, musical instruments, jewelry and other accessories are among the variety of items featured in this quaint new space. Ceremonial masks, statuary, and baskets from Africa, handloomed ikats from Indonesia, antique hand embroidered textiles from India and China, didjeridus (end-blown instruments) from Aborigines in Australia, and tribal jewelry from Afghanistan are a few of the treasures that one can find in the Fourth World.

The ideals of the business are to advocate the social and cultural significance of art forms in developing countries, to promote fair wages for all artisans and to encourage local small-scale importers and artists. The shop represents many artisans cooperatives from around the globe and tries to buy directly from the artisan whenever possible.
