Biography

Founded in Chicago, IL in early ’05 by designer Stiles Anderson and CEO Glen Schwartz, bya Denim was created as a brand with a connection, and a thought provoking story of inspiration.

“bya”, an acronym for “billions of years ago”, is a non-literal term used to reference any time before the present. You can trace the evolution of our planet by referencing time in billions of years: the earth was created at 4.6 bya; our planet’s first life form, Archaea, can be traced to 3.8 bya.

The creative concept for bya Denim is the partnering of a time-honored, purist approach to denim (no fancy trims or embellishments, but heavy attention to construction detail and fit, with authentically created washes) and the paralleling of the earth’s evolution with the evolution observed in worn denim fabric. Jeans are celebrated as garments with evolving characteristics and “personality”, and not only capture who you are and where you’ve been, but also intimately set the stage for where you’re going and why. bya Denim was thus created to highlight, and in some respects pay tribute to, this uniquely beautiful process of capturing life in a pair of jeans.
