Haj Designs

Biography

Elhadi M. Gueye, known to the fashion world as Haj, is a fourth generation custom designer and tailor providing exclusive custom attire to the very affluent and most discriminating clientele.

Born in Senegal, Haj began his career in Europe under the instruction of his father, Barra Fama Gueye, who designed and tailored fine apparel for French and West African aristocracy and uniforms for servicemen during World War II. During his tenure in Paris, Haj was the recipient of the “Young Designer of the Year “award for three consecutive years.

Haj relocated to New York in 1989 and was employed by Macy’s Department store as a designer and pattern maker for the store’s private label apparel.

After several years in New York, Haj moved to Chicago and began his career as an exclusive designer and tailor for the fashion elite. Haj Designs, Inc.- founded and run by Haj Gueye currently boasts a high profile clientele roster inclusive of professional athletes, famed comedians and actors, television news anchors, politicians, businessmen and the like. Additionally Haj has provided wardrobe for television and major movie productions – The Bernie Mac Show and Head of State (featuring comedian Chris Rock) to name a few.

A firm believer in giving back to the community, Haj consistently participates in charitable events with many organizations such as; The United Negro College Fund, La Rabida Children’s Hospital, The Life with Lupus Guild and The Aaron Brooks Foundation (assistance to persons with disability).

With a ready to wear line, designer boutique and internet store currently in the works, HAJ Designs, Inc. is targeted to not only be the next designer brand – but more likely the latest fashion empire.
