Charushree Swaminathan

Biography

Designer Charu Swaminathan, also a professional Indian Classical singer combines her Indian heritage with western influences to create colorful handcrafted jewelry.

She initially designed jewelry pieces for herself using sterling silver, titanium, copper, precious and semi precious stones. Being a creative person she started experimenting with various textures and designs to create some contemporary as well as Asian influenced jewelry .

Her training in jewelry and metalsmithing has helped in using various techniques such as soldering, casting, unique stone settings etc to bring out the beauty and aesthetics of each metal and stone. She also uses a lot of color on metal with patinas, enamels, prismacolor pencils and various pigments. One can see subtle emotional tinges in her jewelry perhaps inspired by her extensive training in music.
