Eia Millinery Design

Biography

Roscoe Village — Eia Radosavljevic received her Certificate in Millinery from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City after completing a career in dance. She continued her studies in couture millinery at FIT with Janine Galimard, formerly of Balenciaga in Paris.

Eia Millinery Design began in New York City in 1990 and opened in Chicago in 1995. Eia is the headwear design instructor at the School of Art Institute of Chicago, and teaches hat workshops at the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Alliance Francaise, and other locations.

Eia was the only US finalist in the Hat Magazine of London’s 1st annual “Hat Designer of the Year” competition and she won an ’Entrepreneur of the Year’ award from Victoria Magazine in 2002. Her works are in the permanent collections of the Chicago Historical Society and the Staten Island Museum of Arts and Sciences.

Eia has created hundreds of hat events over the years at venues as varied as galleries, hotels, restaurants, country clubs, cultural centers, and private residences. In 1995 she co-founded the Millinery Arts Alliance, an organization of Chicago hat-makers of which she was both president and a member through 2002, and in 2004 helped launch CHAPEAU: The Milliners Guild, a new group of fledgling milliners and ex-students of Eia’s from Harper Community College and the School of the Art Institute.
