Biography
Lidia Wachowska knew she wanted to work in the creative arena, but she could never have foreseen that soon after graduating from The School of Art Institute of Chicago, she would start her own clothing label. While working on illustrations and digital animations she came up with a character called Evil Kitty. This rebellious feline eventually ended up on t-shirts, which became the foundation for her clothing line.
The collection mirrors a lot of Evil Kitty’s characteristics. It is Inspired by rebellious music and art, unusual street fashion, punk movement, 40’s glamor and designers who push the envelope. Fashion that stands outside the mainstream is what Evil Kitty is about .
Lidia likes to work with unusual textures and fabric combos. She enjoys combining contrasting colors as much as working with monochromatic schemes. Some garments are embellished with prints and appliqués, while others keep classic simple silhouettes.
Evil Kitty attracts mostly younger audience (or young at heart); women who are tired of “cookie-cutter fashion,” and like to stand out in the crowd. The independent thinking woman who has a statement to make. Lidia has a loyal following all over the country as well as in Canada, Europe and Japan. While Evil Kitty is mostly a wholesale business, the retail website’s sales have grown tremendously. Evilkitty.net attracts buyers from all over the world. To rewards loyal customers, Lidia is starting a Evil Kitty Fan Club with an array of benefits and discounts. Sign-ups will start in December 2007.
While the 2007 Fall collection was based on classic lines and solely Black & White, Spring 2008 goes back to punk rock roots. Look for hot pink and green dresses adorned with metal grommets, snaps, safety pins and “D” rings.
