Biography

Lincoln Park — Designer Jane Hamill is a graduate of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. She set up her women’s clothing business in Chicago in October 1992 with a small retail boutique and a dream to succeed. Her shop, Jane Hamill, carried Jane’s clothing designs which were known for their simple elegance and creative use of texture and pattern. Her clothes were feminine, sleek and stylish. Mark Shale, Marshall Fields, Saks Folio, Bloomingdale’s and other major retailers carried Jane’s line. Jane’s expanded shop was a mainstay of Armitage Avenue in the heart of Chicago’s Lincoln Park for 15 years. She sold her business in 2007.

While shopping at a fabric show in New York, Jane discovered a luxuriously soft fabric that she thought would make excellent cozy turtle-necks. Her vision was sweaters in brown and burgundy, rich in color and texture; a perfect addition to the fall line. When she asked to see the color range was she was told it was pink, baby blue, and ivory – all ‘baby’ colors. Serendipity. Jane’s personal and professional lives were also turning to all things baby. This was the beginning of Jane Hamill Blankets. Thus is the life of an entrepreneur – different designs for different stages of life. Enjoy!
