Long a Field Museum favorite, the Grainger Hall of Gems has been completely renovated and now contains many never-before-seen pieces. The renovated Grainger Hall of Gems features a unique display that shows gemstones as they are found in nature, as cut and polished gems, and as stunning jewelry created by top designers – including Chicago-based designers Lester Lampert and Ellie Thompson. This permanent exhibition is the most comprehensive exhibition of its kind between the east and west coasts. Many of the pieces on display are a part of the Museum’s original collection, dating back to the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893.
