The Designers in Residence

The Designers in Residence (DIR) have been provided office space, a workshop room with sample production space and a resource section; as well as a showroom. DIR are required to complete a core curriculum of workshops and seminars conducted at the Incubator location at Macy’s on State Street for the duration of a one year period starting in March 2010.

C/FAN

C/FAN is a Chicago based label launched in 2008 by designer Christina Fan. Fan studied history at Northwestern University but found herself inexplicably attracted to the world of fashion and design. C/FAN collections draw upon various inspirations from the worlds of art, music, film and pop culture. All meld together into a line based on essential pieces exuding luxury and sensuality.

Donaldo Smith

Killian Gui

Starting off by designing special occasion items for friends, Donaldo set out to build a brand that was worthy of gracing the pages of the magazines he envied so much, that is how Killian Gui was born. Killian Gui is a contemporary Menswear brand that masters the blend of elegant business attire with modern casual wear.

After graduating from the Illinois Institute of Art in 2005, Jonnie’s hard work and planning helped her realize the dream of launching her line. In 2009, Jonnie left her job to complete the first season of “Nonnie”. Jonnie’s menswear is a result of early-mid 1900’s inspiration balanced with the functional needs of the modern man. Nonnie’s refined utilitarian look provides distinction for men who are unique, comfortable, and nuanced in their style.

Miriam Cecilia

Miriam Cecilia offers cocktail and evening dresses along with separates that can be mixed and matched. Miriam Cecilia garments are inspired by spontaneous moments found in nature and the transitional function between vast landscapes and the bustling city. Hand draped detailing and volume packed manipulation of fabrics are translated into sleek silhouettes that effortlessly take the Miriam Cecilia client from day to evening. The combination of contemporary elements and the contemplative essence of nature brings a breath of fresh air to the Miriam Cecilia client in her many different walks of life.

Stephanie Kuhr

Dottie’s Delights

Stephanie studied at both The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, as well as The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since graduation she has been quietly building a line of vintage-inspired lingerie and foundation wear, under the name Dottie’s Delights (a reference to her grandmother), realizing there was a growing need for sophisticated underthings that could shape the body naturally into a more flattering silhouette.
