There are a number of distinct neighborhoods within West Town which makes it an eclectic and diverse community. West Town neighborhoods include: East Village, Eckhart Park, Humboldt Park, Noble Square, Smith Park, Ukrainian Village, and Wicker Park.
At the turn of the twenty-first century, West Town started changing. The influx of artists, students, and other younger “bohemian” populations drew more affluent residents, particularly in the Bucktown section north of North Avenue. Subsequently along Milwaukee Avenue and Halsted there has been in rise in restaurants, nightclubs, and shops near the cultural landmarks and institutions created and sustained by earlier residents.
